Denver, Colorado
July 2001
We visited Colorado to spend some quality time with Jeanne's side of our family and see
the Rocky Mountains and Denver. Jeanne's Uncle Jim and Aunt Linda reside in Highland, and they
were kind enough to show us around. As always, they were conscientious guides and generous hosts.
Jeanne and I had been to Colorado briefly several years ago (on our way to Yellowstone), but
didn't stay long enough to really take much in. This trip afforded us a better opportunity to
scope out the area. Denver was a beautiful and friendly town (it's hard to believe they host
such an evil hockey franchise!). Jim and Linda were kind enough to show Jeanne and I around the
downtown area. We visited the State Capitol, the US Mint, and the Denver Museum
of Nature and Science. They were all nice, but the museum was the venue we enjoyed most.
As much as we liked Denver, the mountains are what will always stick in our minds when we think about
Colorado. Here in the land of Flatlanders, we are sadly lacking surface features on the scale of the
Rocky Mountains. I can't put into words how glorious they truly are, but suffice to say they will
always hold a special place in my heart and mind.
